He's just too 'nicey' and looks like he's had a hard night on the tiles! Not very dark and dangerous imo. I can certainly imagine Johnny as dark and dangerous but that's a whole new thread lol! Best not start a new thread on that particular subject Debs...we'd have to make the forum X-rated and ban the young 'uns! I can't imagine Jason Donovan in the role either...maybe it's a contractual obligation that the lead man has to have the same initials as Johnny Depp - perhaps Jack Dee will take over when Mr Donovan moves on...or Jack Duckworth? *don't mind me, I've been on the Vodka...it does weird things to my brain*

It may not be a film from 2008 but it's star is in a 2008 film and it's a bloody damn good film. I'm talking about POTO with the lovely Gerry Butler which is on the telly right now ;D

I just got back from watching Sweeney Todd and however good the film was (and it was), i'm really disappointed. The casting of Toby was all wrong, yes the kid can sing but he's not right any other way. I'm surprised by all of the vocals actually but Jayne Wisener as Johanna sung 'Green Finch and Linnet Bird' beautifully. The hacked 'God thats Good' to pieces and i'm really annoyed because it's a brilliant song. There are no chorus lines at all which is disappointing and they've completely cut a few of the songs, including 'The Ballad of Sweeney Todd' How they thought they'd get away with that I don't know. I knew about a lot of the cuts before going but I really missed them when I was watching which I didn't expect to. There is more gore then is necessary. A lot of the violence (ie throat slitting) isn't needed but is shown in all it's bloody glory with plenty of fake (obviously so) blood. I'm not going to mention what happens at the end because I don't want to spoil it but I will say that, in my opinion anyway, it was a bit cr.ap and again there was a lot of unnecessary stuff in there. Lets just say it certainly earns the 18 rating. Don't let me put you off though

Would just like to add to that review (I was going to yesterday but I forgot) Sascha Baron Cohen (or however you spell his name) is absolutely brilliant as Pirelli, you will be shocked, but in a good way, (even if he is a bit too skinny for the part)

Can you give me a heads up as to certain bits I should decide I need to visit the toilet/popcorn seller/ice cream stand?! Is it really really horrific?

I'd say just close your eyes. It's not really loud violence or anything so if you can't see it you'll be fine and there's no way I can recommend missing any of the songs.

Thought i'd add to the thread.
I saw Juno today and it certainly lives up to the hype. Very funny and Ellen Page is fantastic in the lead role. I highly recommend it, definitely deserves all the award nominations it has received. I saw Penelope last weekend and i'm wondering why it was shelved for 2 years. A funny, sweet slightly more modern take on a traditional fairy tale and even if it is a little predictable at times it's still a likable, feel good film.
Have any of you seen anything recently?

Triple post - go me, lol.
Atonement has just won best picture at the BAFTA's and deservedly so imo. Congrats to all the other winners (disappointed about a few, happy about others but isn't that always the case?)
I do however, think that there needs to be a slight change in the rules that govern these awards with particular reference to the films which qualify for nomination. There is at least one film that I know of that received several nominations and won at least one award that hasn't even been released in this country. I personally don't think this film should have been included in the nominations at all. Anyone else have opinions on this?

Triple post!!! I only saw the end of this last night, and I must say that I didn't recognise some of the films. But I do agree with you, if it hasn't been released how can it win a Bafta? From what I saw, I thought the award to Anthony Hopkins was well deserved and Kiera Knightly looked very bored! I've not been to the cinema lately, joy of joys I'm off to see the Golden Compass with my daughter tomorrow as we missed it when it first came out. My youngest went to see Penelope yesterday with a birthday party, her review - 'it was funny and she had a nose like a pig' - she also told me something about the pig nose melting when she kissed someone?!? Moral of the story: never ask a 7 year old for a movie review LOL!

Yup they did, using over a 1000 local extras apparently. Atonement also won production design which is pretty much an award for the beach scene.
Kids film reviews are funny. Always interesting.
