I thought it may be a good idea to have a 'film' thread. I often find that newspaper reviews are 'suspect' so honest opinions may be useful!
I shall start off with 'PS I Love You'
I had no idea what this film was about, but my friend wanted to see it as she had read the book. The story sounded like a weepy and slightly depressing to be honest, but I really enjoyed the film. It was very funny in parts which nicely balanced the sadness element. The minus point for me was that some of the scenes 'went on' too long, I switched off in the opening arguement scene which seemed to go on and on forever. Personally I thought it was a bit of a 'chick flick' but worth going to see, which is more than I can say for some of the chick flicks I saw last year LOL!
P.S. I can't wait to see Sweeny Todd ;D (I'm watching footage from the premier last night on the telly at the mo. I must say that as usual Mr Depp looks dreadful) ;D

I'm hoping to see PS I love you next week, the only downside is it involves begging my sister to sign me in. I'm a massive Gerry Butler fan so that's the real draw for me I'm also really looking forward to Sweeney Todd too, hoping to get to a preview showing next weekend. I saw Enchanted, St. Trinians and The Golden Compass over Christmas. All 3 are very enjoyable but clearly aimed at different audiences. I wouldn't recommend The Golden Compass to anyone who hasn't read the book because it'll make a lot more sense with the book to back it up aswell. St. Trinians is a fun film which is more for young teens (13-15) but it's great to watch and just the kinda thing you wished you got up to at school but were too scared to. Enchanted is a welcome return to old school Disney with a modern twist. If you enjoy films like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty etc. then you'll love it. A look back at childhood which leaves you feeling happy.

Is everyone else on here going to see Sweeney Todd for the lovely Mr. Depp and because it's a Tim Burton film? Has anyone seen the actual show?

No I haven't seen the show, although I got the chance when Jason Donovan was in it, it came to the local theatre. I heard so many mixed reviews at that time it put me off. The fact that if I don't like the film I can just watch Mr Depp all evening makes it much more of a good reason to go ;D

Jason Donovan in Sweeney Todd? That sounds rather strange. I've only seen a concert version of it. Although that concert version was one of the best things i've seen on stage (Bryn Terfel as Sweeney is just ) i'm still desperate to see a full live version. I just have to have the film to keep me going for a bit.

They will insist on casting people who aren't right for parts purely because they're a big name. The jury is out on Johnny Depp until i've seen the film but he certainly can't be worse then Jason Donovan. I'm also curious to see the films Anthony and Tobias in action.

He's just too 'nicey' and looks like he's had a hard night on the tiles! Not very dark and dangerous imo. I can certainly imagine Johnny as dark and dangerous but that's a whole new thread lol!
