Oh dear! Justin Hawkins, former frontman of glam rock band The Darkness, is bidding to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest. The flamboyant singer and guitarist is one of six acts competing to represent the UK in this year's competition. Former East 17 star Brian Harvey and ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon will also be vying to take part. The other three contenders are hip-hop group Big Brovaz, pop quartet Scooch, and Cyndi, who is new to the UK music scene. Only one of the six acts will go to the Finnish capital, Helsinki, for the 52nd annual contest following a public vote in Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up. Hawkins, who slipped into a downward spiral when the popularity of The Darkness started to wane, spending more than £150,000 on cocaine and being admitted into rehab, will take to the stage with singer Beverlei Brown. As duo Hawkins And Brown, they will perform They Don't Make `Em Like They Used To, while former '90s pop band singer Harvey will perform I Can. Harvey will be hoping for more success after becoming one of the unluckiest figures in pop. He was sacked from the band when he appeared to condone Ecstasy use and recently fell under the wheels of his own car while driving.

I posted this on here Ruthie because if you knew the two main guys mentioned in this news bulletin they would probably seem quite strange choices! I expect they would get a lot of votes in the UK though and be quite controversial! ;D Good Luck to Estonia too btw!

We haven't made up our mind yet who we're going to send to Helsinki..We've had 4 semi-finals and this saturday we're going to have something called "A Second Chance" wich means that two contestants from each semi-final has gotten a second chance of coming to the final (2 contestants from each semi-final won and will compete at the final without going through the second chance) and then 1 or 2 wins and can compete in the final wich I think is next week. It's not as complicated as it sounds but it's hard to explain in english.

How exactly does someone manage to fall under the wheels of their car "while" driving?!? I know! I remember seeing him interviewed and explaining how it happened. I think it went along the lines that he had eaten a huge dinner and was driving along and felt sick. He stopped, opened the car door, leaned out and whilst he was performing the bodily function accidently put his foot on the accelerator rather than the brake. He apparently got dragged out of the Mercedes (assume no seat belt), and got pulled under the wheels which meant the car ran over him. I do recall seeing the x-rays which looked like he'd broken most of the bones in his lower body! At least this was the official story - strange but true! Btw - here is Justin Hawkin's myspace www.myspace.com/britishwhaleCheck out 'This town ain't big enough etc etc . . .'

I have been a fan (I kid you not!!) of the Eurovision Song Contest for a few years now!! In fact, I have parties to celebrate it!! If you have ever sat down to watch it, and witnessed the true genius of Sir Terry Wogan's acerbic wit and basic piss take of the astounding favouritism shown between certain countries (I give as an obvious example ...... Greece 12 points from Cyprus....... Cyprus 12 points from Greece.....for at least the past 15 years!!) We only enter it as a matter of fun now.....hence the massive attention from "stars" from the British Pop industry. We will never win again, and we know it. It is just funny to see which countries vote vote for whoever is either closest to them geographically, or who has the most to gain. No offence to any of our friends in Europe!!

I guess I'm a fan too of Eurovision because I always take notes on what I think of everyone and the points everyone gets.. both in the swedish final and eurovision song contest..=) I don't know how long I've been a fan of it because I don't see myself as a fan..=) We have one man here in Sweden who really loves Eurovision Song Contest, he's a actor also so that's why I know of him..If you say a year and a country he knows their contribution to ESC that year and can sing from it..

I don't think I can bear to watch Eurovision this weekend. The UK entry is sooooooooooo bad it makes me embarrassed to be British!! And yes, I know that trashy pop songs with lashings of cheese on the top is the point of Eurovision...but even so, we usually make half an effort to produce something easy on the ears...but this year? No no no no no...what were they thinking?!
