Wahey!! So as most of you know, I'm a photographer trying to worm my way into getting a career in it. A few days ago I was talking to a friend I used to go to school with. Anyway, we regained contact recently through myspace and have been talking ever since. She told me that she's in a local Gothic/Opera band and that they've just recorded their first single, which they intend to send out. She then mentioned that she'd seen some of my photos (she knew that I did a portrait shoot last week) and she asked me to become the band's official photographer!! ;D I think I'm definitely going to go for it, as there will be money involved and possibly a longterm position with the group, but I've never photographed Goths, or anything remotely Gothic before (it's just not my style). She told me that I can do what I want with her and the band, but I really wanna get it right........so any ideas?

Hey
I would say go for it, My flatmate is in a band and she does soo many photoshoots, all doing different thing to find which works best. If you get to stick with the band, you can develop your photography style as they develop...most bands do different styles of photoshoots during their careers. ...
if any of that made sense?!?!?!?!

www.evanescence.com/gallery.aspYou may find this useful to get a few ideas of where to start with images etc. The gallery is quite extensive. Other than that, I'm stumped. The goth bands I used to like (All about Eve, The Mission are no more, but I guess you could google them to get a few old images)

Lol Sally; I'm a big Evanescence fan And yes, that made sense about your flatmate's band. I will definitely look into professional shoots but I much prefer to try and get my own style into my work. I was just wondering if anyone had any vague possible ideas. The band consists of one girl and one guy...who has one shedload of piercings haha!! Aaa, I'm excitable and confused.

Whitby, is a very historic place (my favorite seaside town), Bram stoker apparently wrote or had the inspiration for Dracula their, if you can get their, it would make a perfect setting, the ruins of the Abby are beautiful, cobbled streets, a hell of alot of Victorian gang ways and houses, they have alot of goth weekends their, shops etc etc, its re known for goths! I'm sure their are many sites on Whitby its self and st Hilda's abbey! i love gothic things myself, I'm part goth wanting to come out lolol but I'm afraid i could never be, but i love the clothes they wear, dramatic makeup, and household furniture lol and I'm a bit obsessed with vampire books and mild horror films. a ruined chapel at dusk would be perfect, grave yards, a Victorian background theme. or just go totally old romantic lots of authentic candlesticks in a really nice background setting! www.whitbyonline.co.uk/links/goth/also you might get inspiration from www.annerice.com/bs_VampireChronicles.htmwww.darlingvioletta.com/i guess their are different goth themes, romantic, spooky, old fashioned, mysterious, dark, even a setting in an old house would look good! omg Ive been reading to many books!

Shaz, I loved the Freddie (the furry one) photo you posted, if you take these photo's can we see some? Yes, of course you can I'm very flattered that you'd actually want to see them haha! I'm always updating Siân Lister Photography with new shots (put some new woodland ones on the other day along with some portraiture a few weeks ago) so new shots that're good enough will get shoved onto there. I'll make sure that when/if I do work with Dreamsword, that I post a couple of photographs up on here though

Wow seriously, you have an amazing eye! I love Mother Nature's Fury, I love the angle from which it has been taken! And I love Sweet Sunshine, it reminds me of summers spent as a child Do you sell any of your prints? If you don't, you really should, I'd buy a few of you!!!

Heh, thank you cesca Mother Nature's Fury and Sweet Sunshine are favourites of mine too. They were both taken at the same location, as most of my landscape photography is. I have a passion for Maiden Castle; it's one of the few incredibly beautiful man made structures and locations in the world in my opinion (it's an Iron Age hillfort just outside the town I live in). I do sell prints, although I am looking into finding a way to get better prints made; as at the moment I have to print myself, and I can't achieve the quality that I would like to. However, I have now found a local printer so I'm going to contact them at some point and see what I can do about the situation, as a few people have asked me for prints to date. Erm; my most recent was a shot I gave to a family friend (she's battling cancer so I didn't want any money for the shot). She's going to get it transferred professionally onto a canvas and give it to a friend as a present, which is nice...and I'm incredibly flattered too. The following shot is the one she's using. I called it Insignificant Monstrosity, and it's supposed to symbolise the size of humans in comparison to the world. I mean...we're so small but do so much damage. A lot of my work revolves around the issues of global warming. I love conceptual shots. Anyway I'm rambling...this is the one I gave her... I just realised how much I wrote then Sorry, I get carried away when it comes to talking about photography...heh

If you get sorted with a printer be sure to let me know as I am hopefully moving soon, and need some pictures! Thats such a wonderful thought of you to give the print to your friend - I;m sure it will provide many an hour of relaxation - I love staring into a good print, you can fade into it and all your troubles vanish

Haha, yeah that's why I enjoy taking them. It's a way to express myself, and I find that very difficult on occasions. There's usually a hidden meaning in most of my shots; although I tend to get most of it into my portraiture. I'll let you know on any changes on the print front. You're very kind
