Hey Ruthie? You okay over there? I was watching the news last night and there were major riots going on in Tallin over the removal of a Russian statue commerating their fight against the Germans.
From what I understand the Estonians want it removed as it is a symbol of Russian oppression but the many Russian people in Estonia (and the Russian government) are furious as they see moving it somewhere else as a huge insult. Hence the riots. Lots of damage, lots of anger, police, water canons, buildings destroyed, all in the old town area.
It was all brought home to me because Ruthie had been telling us all about Tallin and of course, Tony spent a really happy time there. Pam you went as well, didn't you?

Such a shame about the riots. When I was over there I found the people to be very friendly, although I was advised in advance of the trip that there's a lot of bad feeling between the locals and Russian speaking people, so I avoided using the Russian phrases that a friend taught me! Hopefully Ruthie is ok, she's a fair distance away from Tallinn I believe.

Hei i'm fine, but scared !Don't worry! Yes that's right pam -i live 186 km away from Tallinn! But that's awful, what's going on there! actually i really can't understand the estonians(habitants of Tallinn) who are fighting there !! I really can't understand it! They are sooo d**n stupid! Ok russians are fighting, but why did estonians had interrupt there!!I really can't understand them, coz estonian goverment has warned estonians in different ways! Estonian goverment sent to estonian habitants SMS with a warning :"Estonian goverment asks you :Stay home,Don't obey PROVOCATIONs! estonian goverment!" And all highschool students got e-mail from our minister! By the way-most of the people there /on russian side/ are much younger than me-they are like 12-15! Mostly 13! Estonians are actually the same! Actually there is a big difference between the people from Tartu and Tallinn,Coz the people from Tartu are 100% more intelligent than in Tallinn. Tartu is the center of education-95% of people living in Tartu have graduated, are studying ,or are goimng to study for sure THE UNIVERSITY! actually russians from Tartu have either driven to Tallinn for that riot or has said that they are shamed oftheir nation and they pray for it's end! Oh god! Now i read some articles about russians planning to harm Tartu too!! Fortunately as it came aout those were only lies! i'm sure that those were only drunk russian students making fun,ciz there students day right now! And most of the students are drunk!-But they know very well what they can do or can't do-opposite to people in Tallinn(those estonians there are morons, why can't they stay at home?).!! Actually since yesterday it's forbitted to sell alcohol from 6pm. Well actually i planned to go Tallin tomorrow, but now i'm not gonna do it!! No way! Actually when i went to walk last night to town i saw estonians and russians partying together! In Tartu estonians and russians respect each other and get along very well!! I also have some russian friends-they were really shocked! Well i'm bit afraid of the war that may come! We are so little and Russia next to us is soo big,of cours i'm afraid! I know that EU supports us! They president EU called to Estonian President and told that! But i hope it doesn't come, coz we've been free for only 15 years now! I wasn't born in Estonia(but i was born in Tartu)- i was born in Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonian_SSR) -I do not want it back!! BTW-I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE BRONZE SOLDIER!! ONLY FROM TV AND NEWSPAPERS! Just look this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBeKUgFI13swww.youtube.com/watch?v=KcAZBm7p5FQthat's awful-i'veseen that from tv already. people away from Tallinn-check it all out from TV-there are I hope i didn't talk tooo much!!
